The largest container ship in the world sets course for Rotterdam
The container ship that makes the latest claim to the title of ´largest container ship in the world´ is ready to go to work in China. The Chinese news channel CGTN made a video public in which drone images show the sailing ‘Ever Alot’ of the Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen (capacity 24,004 teu), still ‘naked’ without containers.
The ‘Ever Alot’ is now in the starting blocks in the port of Shanghai to make its maiden voyage in the China-Europe-Mediterranean Service (CEM). The ship is expected in Qingdao on Monday, after which another way to Europe will be set via Shanghai, Ningbo, Taipei, Yantian and Tanjung Pelepas, where, according to the current schedule, Rotterdam will have the European first on August 3 with receiving the new record ship. Felixstowe and Hamburg will also receive the ship in August.
Although we have been talking about 24,000 teu vessels as the new standard on the Asia-Europe route in the shipping industry for some time, the Ever Alot is the first vessel that can actually carry more than 24,000 containers. The ship that was regarded as the largest to date, sister vessel ‘Ever Ace’, had an official capacity of 23,992 teu. And the newest Evergreen giant can accommodate 40 teu more than the megamaxes with which South Korean competitor HMM previously held the record.
