Rhenus Group buys majority stake of Arkon Shipping & Projects

The Rhenus Group, has bought a majority stake of 60% in the Hamburg-based shipbroker Arkon Shipping & Projects. The shares were purchased from Arkon Shipping. The Rhenus Group bought the stakes through its shortsea subsidiary Rhenus Maritime Services (RMS).

Due to the purchase Arkon Shipping & Projects will be rebranded as RMS Projects. The selling party Arkon Shipping will in the future focus entirely on shortsea transport and the chartering of small container vessels.

The new company RMS Projects will be led by Arkon founder Thomas Cord and RMS director Thomas Ullrich. For this business unite, cargo space is already secured, but plans are in the making of scaling it up. Arkon and Rhenus did not provide financial details of the takeover.
