P&O again with half fleet between Calais and Dover
FERRIES
P&O Ferries is allowed to use the ‘Pride of Kent’ again on the Calais-Dover route. The British Coast Guard has now released the ro-ro vessel this after three rejections. This means that P&O Ferries once again has two of its four ships for the Channel crossing at its disposal. The ‘Spirit of Britain’ already passed the British Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) inspection at the end of April.
It is not yet known when P&O will use the ‘Pride of Kent’ again, according to British media. P&O Ferries reports on Twitter that it will operate only one ship between Calais and Dover until at least the 12th of May.
Laid offs
P&O Ferries, which also operates between Rotterdam and Hull, suddenly stopped all ferries in March and informed staff that 800 people would be made redundant with immediate effect. The employees were replaced by cheaper, externally hired labour.
P&O then planned to resume its shifts, but the MCA put a stop to that. According to the service, there were several shortcomings and safety was not guaranteed.
The only ships of the ferry shipping company that are still on the chain are the ‘Pride of Canterbury’ and the ‘Spirit of France’.
