Massive demand for Reefer containers to ship Covid-19 vaccine

Due to the high demand for the Covid-19 vaccine, there will be considerable demand for Reefer containers. Currently, most of the distribution is being done via air mode. There is going to be a demand for marine Reefer containers to transport the vaccine. An estimate of 60,000 Reefer containers will be required to distribute vaccines over the period of 2 to 3 years.

Up until now, it is unclear whether the current Reefer containers will meet the demand or new Reefer containers will have to be manufactured. The early-stage vaccine requires transportation at -80°C. But there are also vaccines on the market that can be distributed at a temperature of 2°C to 8°C. Reefer containers can maintain temperatures from -35°C to +25°C, and many Reefer containers are transporting pharma products at two °C to 8°C.
