EU shippers bypass Russia sanctions via Turkey route

SHUTTLE

European shippers are increasingly circumventing EU sanctions against Russia by shipping cargo via Turkey. The automotive industry (motor parts) in particular makes use of this shortcut.

This is reported by the German trade magazine DVZ on the basis of information from various Turkish road hauliers and forwarders. European cargo is first transported to Turkey and imported there as an import, then transhipped and then disappears as Turkish cargo to Russia.

Perfectly legal

Some road hauliers in Turkey earn a good living from this strange, but legal form of transit, because Turkey is not on the EU sanctions list and Ankara has no export ban for most Turkish goods to Russia. For example, the Turkish road hauliers Alper Lojistik (Istanbul) and Yilmaz Nakliyat already account for about 15% of all transports, according to the magazine.
